Hello!

Between the Bro-Am, the fourth of July and Veronica (the usual Insider blogger) being out of town, the insider has not been updated for a while.

That is where I come in. Consider me a guest blogger filling in while Veronica is away. My name is Joanna, I’m a senior at California Baptist University, and I’m interning with Jedidiah this summer.  I am loving being here. If you aren’t already aware, Jedidiah is an amazing clothing company and I’m stoked to have the opportunity to be apart of everything Jedidiah is doing.

One of the awesome things Jedidiah is involved with is the Switchfoot Bro-Am.  Switchfoot puts on an amazing free all day show to benefit Stand Up for Kids.  We had our tent up and were able to hang out and tell people everything Jedidiah is about. We had a great time, soaked up some sun and listened to some sweet tunes.  Jedidiah’s own surf team competed in the surf contest and did an awesome job!

Jedidiah’s surf team!

We also handed out flyers for the free Jedidiah Summer Sampler!  If you haven’t downloaded it yet, click here and get it!  Jedidiah paired with Filter Magazine to create a great mix of music to jam to all summer.

With this weekend being the fourth of July and having Monday off, everyone in the office is adjusting getting back to work.  Jacob (another intern) and I worked on the Jedidiah magazine and updating our names on the Community Board.  This is where all the Jedidiah employees post things that represent who they are.  I drew a picture of my coffee mug I bring with me everywhere, because coffee is definitely a big part of my life :)

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend!  Jacob and I are about to run out and grab ourselves some free Chck-fil-a!  (Their giving away free stuff all week long!)

Yay for Chick-fil-a and free food!

for all you iPhone/iPod Touch users and enthusiasts alike, there’s this app called “DoGood” which I highly recommend. a new deed is posted daily and you can keep track of how many people are also joining the endeavor of doing a good turn each day. today’s was to pay a parking meter for one that is expired (or close to) so someone won’t have to pay a ticket. the tasks are simple, but rewarding. spread some kindness and love!

around the conference table [6.17.10]

Last week, all of us interns got to sit in on our first meeting at Jedidiah. It was definitely something we were all excited about, mostly so we could really be in the know as to what is going on with everything.

With Kevin and Kahana back in town, it was time to sit and reflect on the past happenings. Kevin shared little vignettes of his trip to Cambodia with World Vision and Kahana shared details of his trip to Haiti with Compassion International and On Surfari (FuelTV). It was easy to see that everyone’s hearts softened while hearing the stories of the undoubtedly incredible individuals that Kevin and Kahana encountered on their trips to those countries. It’s hard to not feel your heart grow weak when someone relays the details of events such as those. To hear how lives are different and how incredibly blessed we are here; yet as to how beautiful and radiant those people are amidst everything they endure. And to hear the work that those organizations do, it was a huge reminder as to why we do what we do here. It gives the ability to allow the flames of these things that we are so passionate about to burn stronger and brighter; to re-fuel the passion to do the work that we do.

We also got into conversing about the event we had with Stand Up For Kids and the trip down to Mexico with Amor. We’re so happy to see first-hand what these organizations do, but are even more affected to get down to their levels and really get our hands dirty to experience first hand how they work. I don’t think that anyone in that room left those events without feeling some sort of impact. We’re able to help those people out through the garments that we make and sell, but in turn, they help us open our eyes to new things and new perspectives. Our hearts are filled to the the brim with joy and love after seeing the smiles from the children down in Mexico and from all the amazing kids that came through our offices with Stand Up For Kids.

On Saturday we had two branches of Stand Up For Kids from San Diego and Oceanside come visit the offices. They got to come by and we hung out with them, showed them how to screen print t-shirts, let them play around in Michael’s photo studio, gave them some new clothing and showed a few aspiring artists our art department.
These kids are homeless & at-risk, but they are some incredible individuals with amazing aspirations. Hearing their stories and how Stand Up has worked in their lives was just incredible. Hearing how finding a family outside of blood relation was amazing, especially how the volunteers take the time to show the kids that they care and they support them in all that they do. We are excited to see these beautiful faces again at the Switchfoot Bro Am (which is benefitting Stand Up For Kids) on Saturday, June 26.
We hope to see you there!

Meet Joanna Noel Pickett. She’s better than a present on Christmas day. She’s a friendly, optimistic, passionate, creative and slightly eccentric human. Definitely a wonderful fit in the Jedidiah family. She’s a student at Cal Baptist and loves munching on samples from Trader Joe’s (what college student doesn’t love that..) and loves herself a Pumpkin Spice Latte… too bad they’re only seasonal over at the lovely Starbucks establishment that we’re so blessed (and somewhat cursed) to have right across the street. When she’s perched up at the intern station here at the offices, you’ll find her working on the layout and design for the upcoming Jedidiah magazine. When she’s not here with us, you can find her drinking coffee and reading blogs (which are both an addiction for her), making art, baking, or grocery shopping. She’s currently enjoying the sounds of Bon Iver, Phoenix and Priscilla Ahn. A definite need-to-know about this precious being is that she loves God, people and art in all forms. [and in turn, a beautiful heart]

what we’re working on

it’s definitely time for an update on what we’re working on.

Patrick is working on getting details together for our event this Saturday with Stand Up For Kids. It’s going to be pretty sweet. He’s also getting details together for a trip that we’re all taking with Amor down to Mexico.

Kelli & Wesley have both been working on graphics for the Spring 2011 line.

Billy is getting ready to ship out Summer 2010 product.

Michael is now managing the interns, finalizing fonts for the magazine, thinking up of layouts and concepts for the magazine, he’s working on photography and the online store.

that’s all I’ve got for now. more updates will come later.

If you ever wanted to meet someone unique, Ben Nicholl aka “Peach”  is definitely your guy. Who else has managed to teach a German Shepherd how to bark in spanish? I don’t know of anyone else, but there’s a first time for everything. He’s a student at San Diego State University and is a compassionate, dreamer, adventurer, open-minded and machisimo individual. (machisimo? oh well. I’ll give it to him.) He loves himself a sweetened iced coffee with a bit of half&half from Starbucks. When he’s in office he’s currently working on planning the Fall Collection Kick-Off Party/Fashion show while simultaneously learning how to fold shirts like a pro.  During his free time he loves himself some yoga and he plays hockey. He is also a frequent visitor of a certain website that belongs to the one and only Patrick Dodd. You must know that one day he will eventually ride his bike across the country while listening to Seabear, Joshua James and Edward Sharpe and he’s been on stage with Third Eye Blind… now color me green with envy.

Meet Jacob Frischknecht. He’s one of the new heartbeats in the office and one of the lovely new interns. He’s tall, mellow, blonde (definitely not in a bad way), creative and reserved. He’s a more soft-spoken member of the bunch, but we’re excited to have him here. He attends Biola University up in L.A. He’s come to share that he loves Chik-fil-a chicken strips with their signature Chik-fil-a sauce and enjoys Caramel Macchiattos from Starbucks. He’s currently working on layouts and designs for the new Jedidiah magazine and you’ll be able to find him working on his tan outside of the office (you know you tan, too.) He, like the rest of us, spends an ample amount of time browsing blogs, but he prefers to venture over to design blogs…maybe even while listening to Miike Snow, Pheonix, or Vampire Weekend? The need-to-know about this kid is that he wants to travel the world and live the life of the jet-set.
